Well, well, well are LFC also changing to amber and black kit? Just take one, Morgan, you will also have Mummy, Daddy (you will just love him) Wifey and
Kiddys, attendance goes up by 6 but not the take, they don't pay I'm told. Don't expect any socialising after the game, because the whole clan
clear off.
Simmons, get it right, has only ever coached kids, I'm reliably informed. |

Rumour has it that Dan Dean and Jack Holmes have also returned to Leatherhead on Mick's invitation.

Excellent news.... | ||
|
...as that's 4 of Merstham's best players and also good to hear that Dan Dean and Jack Holmes have returned.
Don't worry too much Sydney as I'm sure Mr Banyard will be adding plenty of new faces to your team, and let's face it points aren't won by socialising in the bar after the game! Goalkeeper Carl Bradshaw of Walton Casuals is another decent signing to replace Chris Lewington who I hear has been offered a contract at Dagenham & Redbridge, best of luck to him but I'm sure Carl will prove to be a quality addition. I was at the ground earlier when the players were signing on and there's definitely a buzz about the place....! |

Gilbert and oh Sullivan "all the current players will be given their chance" so the quartet from MFC will be in the stalls watching the show, what
b******s he can talk, as you will find out.

The Surrey Mirror really is a grotty rag. "Merstham Football Club have been left reeling after former manager Mick Sullivan swooped to sign four
players." Er, no, the club fully expected it!
I liked Vernon's little dig at the end: "We had a good first season up and if we had been a bit better at beating the poorer sides like Chipstead, Corinthian Casuals and Leatherhead we might even have made the play-offs." Legend! |

Tend to agree with Sydney there,as regards the Merstham players they will not be bench warming, which beggars the question has Henders played his last game for
Leatherhead. It was well known he had approached Boulter,Morgan,Simmons 2 weeks ago,as for Agyei he must of realised strikers are hard to find at this level and
he is best of a bad bunch around for the money available. As for the rumour regarding Dan Dean,Jack Holmes,it would of made sense to me for them to be his first
signings,he brought them to a top 7 ryman club for a reason,or maybe it was part of a game plan to secure the Leatherhead job.I hope Dan and Jack stay at
Merstham, rather than bench warm at Leatherhead.

Read the article properly.......

......and you'll see that Henders is very much part of Mick's plans or next season.
You fellas must be a bit wet behind the ears if you think that a squad consists of just 11 players......or that the same 11 will play every game of the season - therefore of course it's entirely reasonable that everyone will be a given a chance to impress; let's face it we haven't even had our first friendly yet! Bomaya - that comment from Vernon made me smile too.....should be spicy when the two Clubs meet!

Ah, the ease with which Dean and Holmes were allowed to join MFC last season and the keeness of Sully to attend LFC's quiz nights is now all fitting into
place, him and the creepy Corner walking up Fetcham Grove together arm in arm. They do make a lovely couple.

I think it was pretty obvious that players like Boults, Morgs and Simmo would move on, rather than risk staying with an unknown quantity. As for Dan, Mick
brought him in for cover while Vernon was suspended. He did a consistently good job that earned him a place in the starting line up each week. Jack was brought
in cos a proper left back was needed and he fitted the bill and also did well. I reckon that these players mixed with the better players left at LFC will make
a formidable squad. A good move if you ask me, and one that in my opionion will see the Tanners at least reach a play off spot next season!

Jayd is there any truth in the rumour, that megabucks(for now)Croydon Athletic are going to make a move for Tommy Hutchings. As per your Forum. The reason I ask
is Kwabena Agyei was not in Mick Sullivans original hit list.
|

I recall when Hornchurch......

.....were paying megabucks a few seasons ago - afew on the Rymans Forum commented at the time it wasn't sustainable, and then pop it went, leaving all the
players looking for new Clubs.
Worth remembering that insolvent Companies don't honour contracts to employees....... |

I agree with Moler and Jules on this. Last season showed that, with injuries and suspensions etc, you need a large squad with cover in all positions. Players need to be competing for their places if you want to get the best out of them, as they can get complacent otherwise. I think the new squad has the makings of a successful side, with quality all round, including in the ressies (which, by the sound of it, are going to be a much more integral part of things from now on). I also don't think that Dan and Jack will be bench warmers, as Peter infers; because, if he didn't rate them, Mick wouldn't have asked them to go to MFC in the first place and then return to Leatherhead with him. I'm also sure that they too would have sought certain assurances before agreeing to return! I'm looking forward to the pre-season friendlies, to see what the new squad is capable of.

I dont know anything about the Tommy Hutchings scenario, other than Croydon Athletic along with other teams think Tom is a player with lots of potential, the
problem is that as far as I am aware Leatherhead have taken the 1 year option on Toms contract so he is a Leatherherad player, which means in leymans terms if
someone wants him they would have to pay for him,I have heard figures bashed about some of which are plain daft, but I suppose if someone out there thinks its
worth paying a fee for him then maybe it could happen,as an individual my opinion of Tommy is that he is a very good strong player with lots of potential, and
if you asked me if I would like him in the Croydon team I would say yes,but he has got weaknesses and would have to work on them, but he is still young, but I
like him, everybody keeps going on about moneybags Croydon Athletic and it really is starting to wear thin, there is a huge ambition at the club with regard to
moving up the leagues and possibly into the football league ( A.F.C.Wimbledon for example nobody ever goes on about there wage bill )but the club runs within a
budget so dont believe all you read or hear. With regard to playing squads as some of you have spoken about,at most levels you need a squad of 18/20 as there
will be injuries, suspensions etc,and as you quite rightly say playing the same side every week is difficult, yes maybe a manager may try to play what he thinks
is his best side but with the amount of games now played you need a big playing squad.Dan Dean and Jack Holmes are good examples of that,Mick Sullivan took
them to Merstham and they started to learn there trade, and did well by all accounts,he is bringing them back to Leatherhead and to say they will be bench
warmers is utter nonsense, they will be part of the squad and Mick will give them there chances, and they will further progress,O.K they may not play 30 games in
the season, but they will play many games, and then perhaps rested and then brought back again it is a squad game,I am beginning to think that some of your so
called fans have not got a clue about football and still live in the dark ages.

Jayd wrote: That does sum it up pretty much. I'd rather see a squad assembled and (largely) settled pre-season rather than seeing the management constantly bringing players in throughout the calendar. Players will undoubtedly come and go but some continuity and depth in the squad will not go amiss.
The fixtures got pretty congested towards the end of the season due to the postponements / rescheduled matches and there were some notable injuries and suspensions throughout the season. I won't object if this is negated by a more sizeable squad.

Jayd you quote A.F.C.Wimbledon in the context of big budgets, but they have great support 2000 plus gates, and have a great ground, and most importantly have
always spent within their means.Your club has support of 150 being generous,a ground that is tidy, but a bit of the beaten track,in my opinion your current
Windfall will end in disaster, but enjoy it while it lasts.

Some football history....
|
......for you JayD.
But first pleae note that the two posters (Peter & Sydney), who are banging on about players not getting a chance etc, are not Tanner's fans, Peter is a Chipstead fan and Sydney, quite obvioulsy a Moatsider (the only left behind it seems!) Anyway, back to some history....you have taken the somewhat bold step of comparing Croydon Ath to AFC Wimbledon - sorry fella but you may as well compare a mole hill to Box Hill. AFC Wimbledon weren't just born out of the old Wimbledon with it's crazy gang antics, but from a Club that had a long and rich history of Non League success before that, and many of their hard core support were from that era, so not only did they have an established fan base of watching League football, but also one of watching NL footie, which is probably a good reason why they managed to retain a large part of support even when they dropped down to the CCL. As Peter says, AFC are moving through the Leagues backed by 3000 supporters, and a widespread number of generous backers........your team are hoping to emulate that on a average crowd size of probably 125, OK this will rise , but be realsitic what would you get in the Conference, 500 if you're lucky? The better comparison, imo, would be Fisher Athletic. They were largely a junior side until the early 80s (much like yoursleves), and therefore had no senior history or established fanbase as such, when they embarked on a (heavily cash backed) whirlwind flight up the Leagues to the Conference. They were, also like yourselves based in an area dominated by a nearby well established FL Club, (Millwall as opposed to Palace for yourselves,) and this makes life much more difficult in gaining significant new supporters. Fisher's hardcore support (from memory) was around the 350 mark in their Conference days, and I suspect this is what Croydon Ath would achieve,OK so a couple of big gates would boost the 'average', but when you're looking at your base support how much is this going to financially contribute to the Club? Bear in mind a Club such as Woking were losing 250K per year on gates of 1800 in the Conference.....I'm not a an expert on Conference finances but from what I do know I would think that a team averaging 500 would need financing of around 500k a year in order to have a competitive budget; and then of course you're talking about going a step further into the Football League! So to get Croydon Ath into the FL would probbaly take several million pounds and then to sustain it around another half a miliion a year.........if you really have got someone on board that committed and that generous then fair play, but I've seen it many many times before and it has always ended badly - I'm sure I don't need to remind you Fisher have just gone bust and are looking to reform in the Kent League. I'm sure you will get sick of hearing it mentioned, but that's life, football fans love to speculate on what other Clubs pay their players and when you get a big new wallet in the room everyone's always going to wonder just how much is in it!
